I need to set better goals for my blog and a better structure for it so that it can actually grow. A blog is a hard thing to grow because if your content is meh and your pictures are blah no one will want to read it (except probably for your family and maybe your best friends?). Also, if you don’t have the slightest clue about the inner workings of the internets, well, you are practically shooting yourself in the foot with all the missed opportunities of being found when people do online searches. I am by no means a blog “guru” but everyday I learn something new (or try). I have been working really hard on marketing what I already have blogged on here and there are SO many avenues to do it. My newest find (not new BTW I am just a little behind) Stumbleupon.com.
Getting my stuff on Stumbleupon has been my newest thing. Of course, if you stumble your own stuff they won’t really like that. So you have to create interesting content and get it out there somehow… Well, how? Friends. Plain and simple, your website holds more value when someone else stumbles your stuff (and then more people keep stumbling). That’s been working out pretty well for me so far.
The biggest surprise for me has been Pinterest. I am finally noticing more traffic to my blog via Pinterest. Woohoo! 🙂 Not sure what I am doing right but its finally working for me. Lastly, my #1 non direct source of traffic (people typing my website into their browser) is Foodgawker. Oddly enough, I discovered Foodgawker through the Today Show and it has been such a blessing! Gawker also has Craftgawker, Stylegawker and Weddinggawker (hint, hint, photo buddies of mine 🙂 )
So why am I writing this? Well, mostly to hold myself accountable with realistic numbers and to tell the Universe, “Hey! This is something that I want this year!” Also, because I want to know (if you’re willing to share of course) what some of your Social Media growing tips are 🙂 Plus, lets do some shameless growing together and leave some of your links below!
Below are my numbers for 2014 and then are my goals for 2015 (In order of importance).
Below are my 2015 Goals which I have framed on my desk as a friendly reminder of what I need to do.
Instagram is kind of a big deal for me because its a photo based Social Media site (SMS) and I am kind of obsessed with photos… They speak to me in a way that no other language speaks to me. Weird? Totally! But, I am okay with that 😉 I do want to REALLY grow it because its my favorite SMS to go on ALL…THE…TIME.
Pinterest is my #2 right now for reasons I mentioned above (leading more traffic to my blog) and I have NO clue how to grow it (so, if you have tips… Please help a girl out!)
I am also showing you below why actively using Social Media works (via Google Analytics)
November 17th – December 18th 2014:
I am smack in the middle of moving from Virginia to Colorado and I am finding that it is IMPOSSIBLE for me to keep up with my blog and all social media accounts so I lay low and not really post much of anything…
December 19th 2014 – January 19th 2015:
I have now moved and its time to ramp up my blog again. At this time I do some Google Analytics research on how to weed out “spam bots” and “ghost hits” to my website. Not easy and totally annoying but its working. So, my numbers for this time period reflect a more accurate value of real hits and visits to my website. My biggest source of traffic: Foodgawker, then direct, then social media referrals, referrals from other blogs, Pinterest and other sources. Again, I have been posting some new content but I have been focusing on marketing what is already there (one way is I have been posting “Hey check out this oldie but goodie recipe! [I include the link]” and share it via social media).
