Hello beautiful fall! I love fall, it must be my most favorite season because there are so many beautiful colors to look at and the fall inspired recipes are endless!!! I wanted to kick off my DIY section with a fall inspired DIY project. I went to Trader Joe’s one morning on my usual grocery run and noticed that they had small pumpkins for sale. Knowing that I had a post coming up for The DC Ladies (a blog I write for) I wanted to select some pumpkins as props for my food photos for that post. After arriving home I set my pumpkins aside and that was that… until I got the idea to decorate them for my living room coffee table.
This tutorial is quite simple but it will require a steady and patient hand 🙂
Step one: you will need Elmer’s Glue (with the pointy spout like pictured below), gold glitter (or any color that goes with your home decor. I feel that gold is more appropriate for fall but if you find copper colored glitter that would work too), small white pumpkins, small paint brush, news paper (not pictured. I used white paper and now I believe newspaper would have been way better!), a small rectangle of parchment paper or wax paper or aluminum foil, and a small Tupperware or empty toilet paper roll (to stand the pumpkins on while you paint them with glue).
Step 2: Place the pumpkins upside down as pictured below on the toilet paper roll or Tupperware (you will need one per pumpkin).
Step 3: Draw with glue. Go easy on the squeezing because you want the glue to drip a little down the sides but you don’t want it to drip to the edge of the container. You can clean off the excess drip with a q-tip, paper towel or finger (do it carefully so you don’t smudge the glue everywhere).
Step 4: Sprinkle glitter on the wet glue. Carefully pick the pumpkins up (try not to touch the wet glue) and sprinkle glitter on any remaining uncovered glue. Allow the pumpkins to dry over night.
Step 5: Squeeze a little bit of glue on the parchment paper, or foil, or wax paper and with a small brush coat the pumpkins’ stems with glue. Sprinkle glitter over the wet glue and allow to dry for at least 5 hours. With a large paint brush, towel or canned air, clean off the excess glitter from the pumpkins (its best to do this outside to avoid making a glittery mess).
