I am all about “fun runs” my friends, and even more so if they involve food! The Fit Foodie 5k is my third 5k ever and I also got a personal best! Woot! All that gym time is paying off! (Side note, for those interested: my first 5k was the Glo Run and my second 5k was the Color Run). I found out about the Fit Foodie 5k through Amazon Local, a service similar to Groupon or Livingsocial. I was so thrilled about a race that involved food after! Seriously, it is a pretty genius concept.
I attended this race by myself. Adam couldn’t make it and none of my friends volunteered to join me that weekend but no matter! I made some new friends (not pictured in this blog). The ladies I got to hang out with were so warm and friendly and I am so grateful to them for letting me be part of their group.
Overall, I felt pretty ‘out of shape’ for the Fit Foodie 5k because it was my birthday last Wednesday and since then I had been eating pretty “unhealthy” LOL. I had also not worked out nor ran the week before. I could really tell during this race how my “unhealthy” eating made a difference during the race. I felt so sluggish and almost got lightheaded at one point. All I kept thinking was “Why did I eat that second fried arepa last week with all that cheese!!!??? I really should have had more veggie and fruit smoothies!” Despite all of this I made it to the finish line clocking in a new personal best! Imagine how much better I could have done if I would have made better eating choices leading up to my race? I’d say that is a pretty solid motivating factor for the next one!
After the race I stretched and checked out all the tents. There was a lot of gazpacho and yummy food to be had! Good call Chefs on the refreshing post run meal ideas! They also had beer and wine tasting but I didn’t attend those because I really didn’t want to be sick after working out (I am kind of weird like that, I need a solid break after working out before I can consume alcohol, plus I was driving so I wanted to be responsible 😉 )
Finally, the icing on the cake was when I got to meet Cooking Light’s Executive Chef Anna Bullett. She is so fun, really sweet and informative. She gave me a new source of inspiration and aspiration (which will remain a secret for now).
Overall the weekend was a blast! Any chance you guys want to do a 10k next time? I am working my way up to it 😀
